Cactus Fig

Oval or periform fruit of the nopal or cactus, with thick shell and small thorns resembling a peusa, its interior is full of a fleshy, soft and sweet pulp with many edible seeds, from 100 to 400 per fruit, with a diameter of 3 to 4 mm, small and lenticular. It is consumed as fresh fruit. The length of the fruits does not differ appreciably, the diameter turns out to be significantly different between the localities where it is grown.

The fruit has a higher nutritional value than other fruits in several of its components: 100g of the edible part has 58 to 66 caloric units, 3g of protein, 0. 20g of fat, 15. 50g of carbohydrates, 30g of calcium, 28g of phosphorus and vitamins (carotene, niacin, thiamin, riboflavin and ascorbic acid).
