Granadilla
Along with passion fruit and maracuja, the granadilla belongs to the passion fruit family. There are as many as 200 varieties in circulation, but these three are the most common in shops. The granadilla is by far the least known. This round to oval fruit can be recognised by its orange, but also green or yellow, skin. Compared with the well-known passionfruit, the taste is slightly sweeter.
The hard shell of the granadilla is inedible. The deliciously sweet flesh is gelatinous, with black edible seeds. The granadilla owes its name to the Spaniards. They initially mistook the South American fruit for a small pomegranate.
Transport and storage: Refrigerated transport and storage is recommended for the granadilla. Maintain a temperature of 10˚C.
Shop: A place on the regular fresh produce shelf is fine.
